HHS Secretary Kennedy recently appointed new members to the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC). Prior to the IACC’s upcoming March meeting, ICAN sent a letter urging a comprehensive and rigorous examination of the possible link between vaccines given in the first year of life and autism.
The IACC is charged with providing advice to the Secretary of Health & Human Services (HHS) on issues related to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and facilitating the exchange of information on ASD among the various HHS agencies.
ICAN’s legal team, led by Aaron Siri, submitted a public comment to the IACC urging them to examine the egregious gaps in research regarding whether the vaccines given in the first year of life (Hep B, DTaP, Hib, pneumococcal, and polio) contribute to the development of ASD. The letter included a chapter from Siri’s recent book, Vaccines, Amen, which lays out in great detail the government’s complete lack of adequate research in this area.
We will keep you updated as we hear more from this newly invigorated committee.
