ICAN, through its attorneys, has sued the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for failing to respond to ICAN’s demand for the proof that Dr. Fauci claimed exists to prove NIH did not fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.
During a Senate hearing on July 20, 2021, Senator Rand Paul accused Dr. Fauci of lying when he testified at a prior Congressional hearing that NIH never funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab. Senator Paul held up a 2015 paper which made plain that NIH had funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab. Dr. Fauci, instead of admitting his prior false statement, doubled down by stating that the “paper that you are referring to was judged by qualified staff up and down the chain [at NIH] as not being gain-of-function.” Dr. Fauci also told Senator Paul that he did “not know what [he was] talking about.”
Senator Paul certainly did know what he was talking about because the 2015 paper he held up describes research at the Wuhan lab funded by NIH which modified a bat virus that had only been transmissible between animals and was made transmissible to humans – the very definition of gain-of-function.
ICAN, through its attorneys, submitted a demand to NIH to provide (i) documents that identify the “qualified staff up and down the chain” as referenced by Dr. Fauci; (ii) all communications from that “qualified staff” regarding whether or not the 2015 paper involved gain-of-function; and (iii) any other documentation or communications in Dr. Fauci’s possession regarding the 2015 paper.
Since Dr. Fauci was adamant that he was right and was backed by “qualified staff up and down the chain” and that Senator Paul did “not know what [he was] talking about,” documents proving his statements should have been readily produced to ICAN. Instead, NIH failed to respond to ICAN’s demand.
By filing the lawsuit, ICAN intends to hold Dr. Fauci accountable for his claims.
ICAN will never rest in its fight to expose the truth and will continue to demand full transparency from our government agencies and officials.
