CDC Internal Emails Admit COVID-19 Vaccine Risks Never Acknowledged Publicly

Internal CDC emails obtained by ICAN show CDC officials were unsurprised by the results of the 2024 Global Vaccine Data Network (GVDN) Covid-19 vaccine study, despite the fact that few of the identified safety signals had been acknowledged to the public by CDC. In fact, to this day, CDC’s website section on Covid-19 vaccines still fails to provide any meaningful discussion of safety, leaving the public in the dark.

Consistent with ICAN’s mission to bring you the data our public health authorities don’t want you to see, our attorneys requested internal CDC emails regarding the GVDN multi-country study it funded to evaluate the risks of Covid-19 vaccination. The study (published online on February 12, 2024) analyzed over 99,000 people who received the Pfizer, Moderna, or AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. The study confirmed safety signals for myocarditis, pericarditis, Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, and identified potential safety signals for transverse myelitis, Bell’s palsy, febrile seizures, generalized seizures, thrombocytopenia, pulmonary embolism, and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM).

Since the study received a lot of media attention, ICAN wanted to see what CDC officials were saying behind the scenes—and the documents obtained were deeply concerning. On February 20, 2024, Tanya Hamburger, CDC Safety Specialist, shared a list of media articles to various CDC officials, who then engaged in a frantic back-and-forth about how to respond to the study’s findings with talking points. John Su, now Acting Director of the CDC’s Immunization Safety Office, distributed some (redacted) talking points, complete with laughing emojis.

Perhaps the most telling email was one sent to Kristen Nordlund, CDC Health Communication Specialist, stating of the study, “except for ADEM (which the authors warned to interpret cautiously), all the findings had been reported. In other words, not much new here.”

These internal emails are yet further evidence—in addition to the VAERS and V-safe data ICAN previously uncovered—that CDC knew the Covid-19 vaccines were causing severe adverse reactions but continued to doggedly push the “safe and effective” narrative even after studies like this one had proven them wrong.

ICAN will continue to dig into CDC’s internal conversations to identify those involved in hiding the serious harms caused by these products and to seek accountability for CDC’s unconscionable conduct.
